Got the Android app, it's okay

So I got the Moneydance Android app after buying the desktop version. It's pretty handy for checking balances when I'm out and about. SyncAnywhere was a little tricky to set up at first, took me a couple tries, but once it was running, it worked. Nothing fancy, just gets the job done for basic stuff on my phone.

Smooth upgrade, good support

I recently upgraded my Moneydance license for Mac. The process was straightforward on their website; I just entered my old license key and the 50% existing user discount applied automatically. I downloaded the new version, Moneydance 2024, and it installed without any issues on my MacBook Pro. I had a small question about transferring my data file from an older backup, so I used their support contact form. They got back to me within a few hours with clear instructions, which was helpful. The software itself is robust for tracking my investments and budgeting, and the online banking support for my credit union worked perfectly after a quick setup. I appreciate that it's a one-time purchase too.

Good deal for budgeting

I was looking for something affordable to manage my money and saw Moneydance. I snagged it during a seasonal sale which gave me a decent discount. The one-time purchase model was a big factor for me since I didn't want another subscription. I've been using the budgeting tools and they've helped me see where my money goes. Definitely felt like I got my money's worth.

Decent software, minor hiccup

I bought Moneydance Personal Finance Software for Windows a couple of months ago. The installation was easy enough, and I was able to import my Quicken data without too much trouble, which was a big plus. It handles my budgeting and bill payments pretty well. My main criticism is that the transaction tagging feature could be a bit more intuitive. It feels like it takes a few too many clicks to categorize things sometimes. But overall, for the price, it's a solid alternative to other finance programs.

Does anyone know if Moneydance ever has sales? Waiting for a good deal if I can.

L Lisa A. 2 months ago
Yeah, they definitely do. I picked it up during a Black Friday thing a couple years ago. Keep an eye out around holidays like December or January.

They have sales, but mostly for new users. Existing users get a discount on upgrades automatically, like 50% off if you're going to a new major version. For first-timers, holiday sales are probably your best bet for 10-20% off.

Is Moneydance a one-time purchase or do you have to keep paying every year?

K Kate 2 months ago
It's a one-time purchase! You only pay again if you want to upgrade to a major new version, but you still get a discount then.

One time deal. No annual subscription unless you opt for the Moneydance Plus thing, which is separate and gives you some extra features, but the core software is a perpetual license.

I'm looking at Moneydance vs. YNAB. Which one is better for strict budgeting, do you guys think?

C Chris 1 month ago
Moneydance is good, but if you're really into the zero-based budgeting hardcore, YNAB might be better for that specific method. Moneydance can do it, but YNAB is built around it.

Depends on your style. Moneydance has decent budgeting tools and can do a lot of other stuff too, like investments. YNAB is super focused on the envelope system. I'd try the trial for both if you can.

Hey, thinking of switching from Quicken. Is it a pain to get all my old data into Moneydance?

J Josh 2 months ago
Nah, it's pretty straightforward. They have a tool for Quicken data import, I used it last year and it worked surprisingly well for most of my stuff.

I hear ya, that was my biggest worry. It worked for me, but I had to clean up a few things manually after the import, mostly categories. Still way better than starting from scratch though.

Can I install Moneydance on my desktop and my laptop with one license, or do I need two?

L Laura Vargas 2 months ago
Pretty sure you can install it on multiple computers you own. I have it on my desktop and my wife's laptop without issues.

Yeah, one license is usually good for all your personal machines. It's not like a per-device thing.
